With such a low population there is little worry about traffic, but keep an eye out for deer, pheasants and other wildlife while driving home on quaint wooded back roads. The small population and one way in access also means one of the lowest crime rates in Pierce county. This is a laid back and friendly community of commuters, retirees and self-employed individuals, all looking for a peaceful haven in the Northwest.
Amenities are limited but it does have a fire station, church, convenience store, and post office.
The Island features a yacht club, community center and the beautiful historic Chapel on Echo Bay for weddings and small events. The Nichols Community Center is a non-profit that maintains the historic 1934 school house building for public meetings and community activities. They host a Christmas tree lighting, Easter Egg Hunt and summer concerts. Groups like the Peninsula Art league and local quilters also meet there.
